Some impressions from my first time visiting Serbia 🥰🇷🇸

We had a hectic trip because my partner hasn’t been home on two years.
We wanted to go last fall, but then I got diagnosed (diagnosis is a strong word, since I got a letter in the mail and had to figure it out for myself smh) with a brain tumor, and that whole nighmare ended up taking up the better part of the following year.

So there were a lot of people to catch up with for him, and a lot of people to meet for the first time for me! Luckily I already know a lot of his family and close friends from Berlin visits and I loved seeing them again.

Other things I enjoyed was the random cultural differences, cause when you haven’t left your part of Europe in a while, everything is a pleasant culture shock!

🏠 The architecture
🌳 The elevation and trees and sidewalk cafes of Belgrade
🫑 Home cooked meals
🫣 Not being able to read Cyrillic
🐸 SPICY TOADS!
❤️ Walking more than 10k steps a day
🥲 Seeing all the places in Zrenjanin I only know from my partners stories
☕️ Being able to pop by for coffee with my partners family whenever we wanted
🍿 Street popcorn

Some other things and observations that I didn’t enjoy so much?
💨The smoking. Everyone smokes everywhere, even indoors, even in restaurants. Big yikes.
🚂 The almost zero trains. Fuck that noise, everyone deserves good trains.
🐶 I also noticed that Serbs LOVE their pets, especially dogs. However, the dogs they love are weiner dogs, poodles, pugs and other pure breed dogs. The dogs they don’t love are perfectly good mutts that probably won’t require surgery down the line just to survive. Those dogs (and even more cats!) live in the streets, and with extreme temperatures both in summer and winter, I shudder to think what happens to them when it’s not mild outside.
As someone privileged enough to rarely see strays, that was a tough one for me 😢

We had a really great, busy, trip filled with weird and sometimes tragic occurrences, but I’m looking forward to visiting again, now that I know the place better!
I already miss our friends and family there, so I hope it won’t be long ❤️

A mixed bag of #bookshelfwealth from the living room because… I don’t think I actually posted a picture of my semi self built, used and #ikeahack’ed bookcase? I think it’s beautiful but placed in a dark area next to a greenhouse, it definitely could be more photogenic 😅

Som other interiors, like the hallway, which I was oddly obsessed about decluttering last week, and a cute plant on a cute plant stand 🪴

A book I read back in July and LOVED (but forgot to post the picture obviously), my first chicken of the woods mushroom ever 🍄 and sweet moments with my favorite person.
I’m so happy I sometimes remember that I want to remember, and tell him to take a picture of us with his longer arms. I never wanna forget how good this love is ❤️
